Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Win at Shelbourne.
Even though entering their maiden continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning very quickly. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the Eagles departed Dublin with a commanding win that virtually guarantees them a place in the Europa Conference League playoffs.
Another victory in their upcoming fixture against Finnish KuPS should be enough to secure straight entry to the last 16, especially after a prior stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Grasp the Opportunity
This match provided a platform for some of Palace's fringe talent to impress. Christantus Uche, in only his second start since joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken finish. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a second, finding the net for the second consecutive succession.
The Shelbourne side that had finished their domestic season were no match against a mostly second-string Palace outfit. The Londoners were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are sidelined with leg injuries.
Control Established from the Start
In spite of torrential rain in Dublin, Palace quickly established dominance. A slick move in the 11th minute, initiated by Daichi Kamada's clever pass, allowed Nketiah to set up Uche for a simple finish.
Youngster Adam Wharton came close minutes later, fizzing a powerful shot over the bar. Nketiah then appealed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the referee waved away the appeals.
The formerArsenal striker did not have wait long to get his goal, prodding home from close range after Uche's shot had hit the post.
The home side were hanging on for dear life. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was lucky to escape a booking for two robust challenges on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards rattled the woodwork with a powerful header from a corner.

The contest was effectively over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past a series of comically weak challenges before calmly dispatching a shot past keeper Wessel Speel to make it 3-0.
Following the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to rest several individuals like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse almost scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
Esse was incredibly unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a sitter of a chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to make his first-team debut, rounding off an otherwise positive evening for the visiting side.
