Around 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Law enforcement say they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located numerous other smeared cars and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police say initial examinations show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are presently not informed of any physical harm in connection with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to solve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior political figure stated the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he stated on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter focusing on individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
